A given truth in the world of fashion is that nothing ever really goes out of style, it just goes dormant until it becomes trendy again. The tech world is sometimes like that. From the minds of sci-fi writers to final product, wearable glasses were all the rage a few scant years ago, and are again making a comeback with the oddly catching BT-100 Moverio from Epson.
The BT-100 runs Android 2.2 and pairs two 0.52 inch LCD displays at 960x540 resolution to simulate a viewing experience of a 320” display from 65 feet away, much like a movie theatre (or slightly more akin to your living room, a 50” display from 10 feet). The Android control box lets you view content directly from an SDHC card to the glasses (MPEG-4/MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 for video, and AAC and MP3 are among the supported content types), or even stream direct from the integrated web browser and watch NetFlix or just kill some time watching the latest 10 hour Nyan Cat remix on YouTube.
They’re transparent too, so you can keep an eye on your surroundings, or the gawkers gathering around to try and get a sneak peek at what you’re watching (and for privacy fiends or the really self-conscious, a clip-on shade is provided so you can see out, but they can’t see in). And at only 240g / 0.53lbs, you’ll be able to turn around to stare them down without straining your neck. The Android controller itself weighs only 160g / 0.35lbs, so you won’t be tethered to a laptop or heavy A/V source like the 3D glasses of ye old 2007 either.
