These shirts are made out of a high-tech material from a Japanese company called Nihon Uni. The specially treated polyethylene fibers that are used in making these shirts is intended to make them knife resistant.
The most difficult aspect is balancing our enthusiasm for next-generation, direct from Japan, 007-worthy knife-resistant clothing with our desire for responsible descriptions. Please remember everyone: the operative word here is resistant. And, although they are difficult to cut, they are not able to withstand the force of a directly thrust knife-point.
Still, we think these are really impressive displays of seamless integration of cutting edge technology into our everyday lives. Expect wearable technology to be big in the next decade.
